On Friday, June 20, 2025, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® – Xi Nu Omega Chapter proudly supported the Connection and Social Action Committee of the Monarch Awards Foundation, Inc. and Whitney M. Young High School in hosting Juneteenth with Jazz & Justice—a free community event that blended soulful artistry with civic dialogue.
Held in honor of Juneteenth, the evening featured stirring live jazz performances by talented student musicians, setting the tone for a night rooted in reflection, resilience, and advocacy. Guests engaged in intimate conversations with esteemed legal and law enforcement professionals, including:
✨ Ashley Greer Shambley, Assistant Public Defender
✨ Charisse Walker, West Side Justice Center
✨ The Honorable Toya T. Harvey, Circuit Court of Cook County
✨ Lieutenant Randall Shannon, University of Chicago Police Department
…and many more who generously shared insights, answered questions, and encouraged community-led justice efforts.
The event honored the legacy of Juneteenth not only through celebration, but through action—reminding us that progress is possible when we listen, learn, and lead together.
Xi Nu Omega Chapter is grateful to all who made this evening impactful, and we remain committed to supporting initiatives that uplift, educate, and empower.
