On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® – Xi Nu Omega Chapter laced up and showed out in Matteson, IL for the 1911 Initiative 5K Scholarship Walk/Run—a vibrant celebration of wellness, purpose, and community uplift.
Hosted in partnership with our Sisterly Relations Committee, the morning was alive with movement and meaning:
Walkers, runners, cyclists, and skaters filled the course with energy
A live DJ and food vendors kept the post-race party going strong
Every finisher received medals, shirts, and swag
Most importantly, the event raised vital support for scholarships and mentorship programs benefiting college-bound students
The day began with warm smiles and fresh brews at Sister Sherri James’ Stone Cold Brew tent—setting the tone for a joyful, community-wide experience. Huge kudos to Sister Sherri for helping bring this impactful event to life, and a special shoutout to Sister Felicia Lampkin, who sprinted her way to a 3rd place finish in the 5K!
To every Chapter member who walked, ran, cheered, volunteered—thank you. Your presence turned a race into a movement, and your support helped pave the way for future scholars. Learn more about our chapter’s ongoing commitment to education and empowerment at www.xinuomega.org
